The list of accepted recyclables is divided into two categories, ferrous and non-ferrous. Ferrous means “made of or containing iron,” and non-ferrous refers to metals or metallic scrap that do not contain iron. Steel is a ferrous material since it is an alloy made from iron and carbon. Common non-ferrous metals include aluminum, copper, lead, zinc, and nickel. The distinction between ferrous and non-ferrous metals is important because their separation is the first step in the recycling process.

* Vehicles can only be purchased with an appropriate title, and the title holder must be present at the time of the transaction. You do not need to drain any fluids or otherwise prepare your vehicle for recycling. Mervis Recycling will take care of the vehicle in an environmentally responsible manner.

Items Not Accepted

  • Waste and nonmetallic materials
  • Ballasts and PCB contained materials such as capacitors
  • Oxygen, acetylene, and propane tanks and any other sealed containers
  • Freon tanks
  • Unpunctured automobile fuel tanks
  • Any “closed container” that does not have a significant hole or opening
  • Cans, drums, and containers with residual material(s)
  • Unopened basement fuel tanks
  • Ammunition or steel shot shells
  • Safes and vaults
  • Oil filters
  • “Tangled” rebar steel
  • Oil-filled Delonghi heaters
  • Anything containing mercury
  • Any oil containing transformers
  • Any materials containing asbestos
  • Radioactive scrap
  • Microwaves
  • Vehicles without proper title
